Summary: As a member of the Martin’s Family, the Staff Accountant provides management with financial information by researching and analyzing accounts; preparing financial statements Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following.
Other duties as assigned.
Prepares consolidated internal and external financial statements by gathering and analyzing information from the general ledger system and from departments .
Maintains and balances an automated consolidation system by inputting data; scheduling required jobs; verifying data .
Analyzes information and options by developing spreadsheet reports; verifying information .
Prepares general ledger entries by maintaining records and files; reconciling accounts .
Prepares payments by accruing expenses; assigning account numbers; requesting disbursements; reconciling accounts .
Develops and implements accounting procedures by analyzing current procedures; recommending changes .
Answers accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data .
Provides accounting support for mergers and acquisitions by reviewing financial information; converting data to general ledger system; obtaining supplementary information for preparing financial statements .
Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential .
Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations .
Assists with period end financial statement closing .
Assists with year-end audits .
Assists with special projects approved by Accounting Manager.
Maintains and organizes files and records in accordance with required federal, state, local and company guidelines.
Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education and/or Experience: High School Diploma or GED; Associates Degree in Accounting with 7 + years of experience ; or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting .
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Ability to write simple correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to create and interpret graphs.
Reasoning Skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills: Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet software, Microsoft Word Processing software, and Microsoft PowerPoint .
Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities : Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Ability to work extended hours as required.
Ability to handle multiple assignments on a timely basis, with a high degree of accuracy.
